6 Ingredient Fluffy Dinner Rolls -VEGAN

I have made these rolls so many times that you can probably ask anyone I know how soft and light, buttery, and absolutely scrumptious these 6 Ingredient Fluffy Dinner Rolls are! Not only are they amazing, but they are also simple to make and only require 6 ingredients! Can’t beat it, I promise!

The first step is to add your non-dairy milk, water, and butter in a medium bowl and warm it. I just pop it in the microwave for about 45 seconds, but you can warm it on low on the stove. Just make sure it’s luke warm and not HOT, as it can kill the yeast and the rolls won’t rise and be so light and fluffy.

Then, in a large mixing bowl, add in 1 cup of the flour, the yeast packet, and sugar and give it a quick mix. Pour in the warm milk/water/butter mixure and mix until well combined. After that, you want to slowly stir in the other cup of flour, a couple of tablespoons at a time.

The dough will still be a little sticky and you may think you need more flour, but trust me here. You don’t! Once you have all the flour well mixed in and you have a bit of a sticky ball of dough, pour roughly another 1/2 cup of flour on your surface, spread it out with your hands (making sure to get your hands well floured as well), then grab that dough ball out and plop it on the floured surface.

Now, the fun part! You need to knead the dough for a good 5 minutes. I’m realistic, so I won’t tell you to do it for something crazy like 20 minutes when I know not even Betty Crocker herself can possible knead with her hands for 20 minutes straight, but 5 is necessary in ensuring the dough is perfect and ready to bake. The dough will likely pick up the rest of the flour from your surface, and that is fine. Just makes it easier to clean later, am I right?

Once the dough is well kneaded, oil your 8-9″ round pan. I highly suggest a spring form pan, but it isn’t completely necessary either; just makes the removal of these fluffy dinner rolls much easier at the end. Pull apart the dough ball and form smaller balls and set them in the pan, a little apart so they have room to expand as they rise. The amount and size of the rolls are completely up to you! This time I made more, but smaller, rolls, but they work perfectly fine if you’d rather make 6, much larger, rolls.

Cover the pan with a tea towel and set the pan in a warm window, or simply set your oven on a low temperature (~220°F is what I do) and leave the oven door open with the pan on it. Let rise for about 30 minutes, or until the rolls have completely filled up the pan.

Then preheat the oven to 350°F and bake the rolls for 15 minutes. Pour 2 tbsp of melted butter over the tops and return to the oven. Bake for an additional 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool for 5-10 minutes before popping off the outside of the spring form pan and serving!

Prep time: 45 minutes
Bake time: 25 minutes
Servings: ~8-10 (8-20 rolls, depending on size)

Ingredients:
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup non-dairy milk
  • 2 1/2 tbsp vegan butter + 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 packet (or 2 1/4 tsp) fast rising yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
Steps
  1. In a medium bowl, add the water, non-dairy milk, and 2 1/2 tbsp butter and warm in the microwave or on the stove until luke warm
    (*be sure it’s NOT too hot. I microwave mine for about 45 seconds)
  2. In a large mixing bowl, add 1 cup of the flour, yeast packet, and sugar and mix.
  3. Pour in the water/milk/butter mixture and stir until well combined.
  4. Slowly mix in another cup of flour, a couple of tablespoons at a time until you have a somewhat sticky dough ball.
  5. Using the remaining 1/2 cup of flour, flour your surface and hands.
  6. Place the dough ball on the floured surface and knead for 5 minutes.
  7. Oil a 8-9″ spring form pan and break off pieces of the dough and roll them into smaller balls. Set them in the pan with space between so they can expand
    *Size and amount is up to you They will grow about double in size
  8. Set in a warm place for 30 minutes, or until the pan is full and the rolls have risen
  9. Preheat oven to 350°F, then bake for 15 minutes.
  10. Pour melted butter over the tops of the rolls and return to the oven for another 10 minutes, or until golden.
  11. Let cool for 5-10 minutes, then serve and ENJOY!
